Week 9: Tracking Tool

Wagetti, Johnston, and Jones (2017) emphasize that counting participation alone doesn’t capture true engagement. Monitoring students’ behavior, emotions, and thought processes in real time can highlight patterns such as stress, engagement, or confidence that affect learning. In my experience as a teacher and instructional coach, using academic monitoring alongside behavioral and emotional observations provides a more complete picture of each student. It helps me identify who may need extra support, recognize moments of high motivation, and adjust instruction to meet students’ needs more effectively. By combining these insights, teachers can foster both academic growth and social-emotional development in meaningful ways.
